The Black Horse Grows Wings!
When the world shut down due to pandemic, the Kala Ghoda Art Festival (KGAF), one of the largest multicultural festivals in the world, went global with its digital avatar, hosting over 70 online programs across nine days. This was last year.
2022 February brings with it the proverbial phoenix with the KGAF theme ‘Udaan’, lending it new wings.
The wind beneath the wings will be the main venues over 9 days including the beautiful 100 year old heritage building – Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (formerly Prince of Wales Museum) which contains the Children’s Museum, Coomaraswamy Hall, the Amphitheatre, the lawns and some beautiful outdoor spaces; Max Mueller Bhavan – which has a respected exhibition space dedicated to art and architecture, The NGMA Auditorium, Horniman Circle Garden, Kitab Khana, the streets and Kala Ghoda precinct. Since the streets will not be blocked this year, the ground installations are minimal, and they will have mostly aerial Visual Arts installations, keeping with the theme Udaan, replete with décor lighting as well. In the past, murals have been painted on some building facades. The KGAF is working on art installations that extend beyond the precinct as well.
Keeping in mind COVID protocols, social distancing and registrations are a must to prevent random walk-ins. Double vaccination certificates will be checked, and for children traveling with parents, the Aarogya Setu app will be checked.
Workshops, heritage walks and street plays will be conducted as well as the visual art installations, literature, theatre, cinema, music and dance events among others.
KGAF has always drawn unprecedented crowds. The waiting list will be long! However, all programs are free and no tickets will be sold. Each person entering the venues will be registered.
Considering that Kala Ghoda Art Festival’s mandate is to use its surplus funds to restore buildings and heritage monuments in and around the area with restored projects like the Muljee Jetha Fountain, the K.E Synagogue and Bomanjee Hormarjee Clock Tower, which have been awarded UNESCO awards.
Brinda Miller, Festival Director, KGAF, is elated. "Kala Ghoda Art Festival's date with Mumbai is again keeping with our promise for the 23rd year, celebrating art and culture in its finest form. Our partners and collaborators are holding hands with us once again to ensure that the spectacular return of the on-ground festival is as radiant as ever. To avoid overcrowding and to adhere to Covid protocols, we have focused more on aerial installations, and fewer ground events. Also, our stalls are virtual with the Kala Ghoda Art Kart (KGAK) opening the marketplace to the world, in terms of both participation and purchase. And of course, the art kart is open through the year, starting Dec 10. We are looking forward to everyone joining our proverbial Dark Horse that has taken wings with the concept, Udaan that strengthens our global footprint in 2022."
Here’s to support the 22-year-old iconic festival that draws over half a million people from all walks of life and see it grow its patronage from strength to strength yet again...

Kabir Bedi braves eight hour car ride to star in The Jangipur Trial
Sandokan aka Kabir Bedi Returns yet again. This time as Royalty in The Jangipur Trial. An amazing fim with ensemble cast, it took the magical call of creative producer Amit Behl and the intricate tapestry of a crime thriller woven by director Debaditya Bandopadhyay that made Kabir Bedi say an instant 'Yes' to The Jangipur Trial over a phone narration.
It is not just that. Kabir Bedi actually took the earliest flight the following day to the city of joy that is Kolkata, braved an eight hour road travel that is as rustic and bumpy as can be, freshened and reached the shoot the same day, looking as dashing (read ravishing) as ever!
The unit had already got his costumes in place and in the rural locale, there was still a vanity to welcome the enthusiastic actor.
"I simply love the story, the plot and the ensemble cast. It is a give and take of seasoned actors that takes film to another level," reasons Bedi.
We are amazed by the relentless dedication of this amazing 75-year-young actor whose career has spanned three continents covering India, the United States and Italy among other European countries in through film, television and theatre. With nearly 150 films and international TV series including Sandokan, Knight Rider, Dynasty, Bold And The Beautiful, Highlander and the immortal Octopussy under his belt, it is fascinating that Kabir Bedi still craves for the creative high with every new project.
Looks like we just spelt out the secret of this timeless hunk's success proving there is much much more to the rise and rise of Kabir Bedi that his eternal killer looks!
Talking of Kabir Bedi's latest love, The Jangipur Trial relives the golden age of Cinema when single screen theatres were plenty and "Black" meant theatre tickets being sold for a premium. The Crime thriller also marks the comeback and Hindi debut of three times Sitting MP and Superstar Satabdi Roy.
Starring Kabir Bedi, Zakir Hussain, Javed Jaffery, Vrajesh Hirjee, Kannan Arunachalam, Amit Behl, Ishteyak Khan, Sushil Pandey, Ravi Jhankal, Jay Upadhayay, Deepak Qazir, Samikssha Batnagar, Chirag Vora, Rajesh Khattar & Satabdi Roy, The Jangipur Trial is directed by Debaditya Bandopadhyay, written by Debaditya Bandopadhyay, Sunil Munshi and Deepanjan Suranjan Chanda, has Vikram Anand as the DOP, Creative Producer: Amit Behl, and is produced by Outline Expressions.
The film is being shot in the virgin, unseen locations of Berhampore, Murshidabad, Azimganj and Moregaon besides Jangipur.

Actor Prabhudeva embarks on 'Journey' with Anjum Rizvi-Ashish Dubey

Pooja Bhalekar
I started my journey of martial arts from school time as I was never particularly interested in studies and always looked only towards sports activities
I started off with Yoga and then my interest shifted on to being an athlete, 100 meters’ sprint, high jump, 400 meters hurdles being my forte.
One day i saw some guys practicing kicks and punches, wearing white uniforms and i I got to know that it's a form of martial arts called Taekwondo. . I had an instinctive feeling that this is what my true calling was I i told my family about my decision and especially my mother was really supportive and my martial arts journey kick started.
Yoga helped me with my flexibility whereas my athletic background helped me with my endurance and strength and within a few years i got many recognitions in Taekwondo competitions
Was just focusing on my training day after day and year after year, when one day I got a call from Ram Gopal Varma, who somehow found out about me to ask if i could come to Mumbai to meet him.
That one meeting with him changed my life and made it take a very different turn... RGV is obsessed with Bruce Lee and his philosophy and through Rgv’s understanding of him. I too got hooked onto BRUCE LEE and started learning the particular fighting style of Bruce Lee called JEET KUNE DO to prepare myself for my role in LADKI
No one in the world, ever can be BRUCE LEE but I am thrilled with the opportunity of getting to do the role of BRUCE LEE’S biggest fan in my debut film LADKI
As Bruce Lee himself said, we are all here for a short time in life and the best times of our lives are even more shorter ..Being wise is not only for one to live one’s life in the best way possible, but it is also to live it in a way, what you yourself think is best for you.
It is impossible that any of us can satisfy everyone else around us and actually in the process of trying to do that is, when you will lose your own individuality and your uniqueness.
I consider my body and my fighting skills as my most valued possessions along with my dedication and my perseverance
All these I take them as God or nature given attributes and i worked very hard on making them my strengths.
First time ever on screen, I am getting an opportunity to show my body not just as a sensual female body but in a power equation as much as male action stars like Tiger Shroff, Hrithik Roshan etc and here I have an opportunity to make a style statement on behalf of all like-minded women
I believe that a woman’s ultimate weapon is being a woman and that includes her sensual quotient and that also is a truest example for the ultimate woman empowerment
Woman empowerment is not about equal opportunities for a woman at work, but it’s also about treating her sensuality with respect and give it it’s due respect.
Through my photos, videos, songs and films, I want to push the limits of my capacity to make powerful weapons out of every part of mine whether it’s my body or my spirit or my skills or my sensuality by applying an intense but extremely disciplined determination.
Lastly I quote the legend himself
“No Limit Should Be Your Limit “

Hema Malini inaugurates BMC’s Be A Tree Parent MEGA Vriksha campaign
The recent cyclone Tauktae has battered the green cover of Mumbai, with 2363 trees being uprooted and innumerable others losing their branches. A survey revealed that 70 per cent of the trees lost were non-native species.
After studying the local agro-climatic conditions, including soil quality, humid weather, the BMC prepared a list of 41 native trees that can be planted in Mumbai and are part of the trees in the Konkan belt. These are Wad, Pimpal, Umber, Kanchan, Kadamba, Gunj, Palas, Nim, Mahogany, Moh, Bahawa, Sag, Arjun, Ain, Kinjal, Sita Ashok, Undal, Nagkeshar, Champa, Shivan, Shirish, Karanj, Bakul, Bell, Taman, Hirda, Behda, Coconut, Amla, Khair, Tetu, Mango, Putranjiva, Wild Almond, Bibba, Parijatak, Rita, Sandalwood, Phanas and Chafa among others.
On the eve of World Environment Day, The BMC’s K West Ward Asst Commissioner Mr. Vishvas Mote along with Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation is starting ‘Be A Tree Parent - Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit’ Campaign to involve societies and residents to adopt one of the 348 fallen tree locations in K West Ward and re-plant the same with an identified fast growing tree species.
Keeping in mind the above and to restore green cover, Asst Commissioner Vishvas Mote avers: “The aim of this campaign is to involve citizens and societies to adopt and take care of a tree at the location of a fallen tree, that will be planted in consultation with the Garden department. It also aims to create awareness among citizens about different native species of trees, their blooming seasons and growth patterns and to build a sense for ownership among residents for green cover in the city.”
Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Founder, Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation, “The trees we are planting in conjunction with the Garden department of BMC include flowering plants tamhan, jamun, badam and such other native species. We have water levels that are high. Hence the roots do not go very deep in search of water, which is why we think it best to grow species that do not grow above 30 feet. We are requesting the locals to become a tree parent and adopt the trees. Any guidance or help they need at any time, we are there to handhold them. Vishvas Mote ji has always been in the fore for causes that protect environment. We are very glad we can involve community to protect our greens. Our future depends on the green footprints we leave behind.”
The inauguration of this campaign will be at 11 AM by planting a Tamhan plant at a pit where a 45 foot tree once stood, by the hands of Hon MP Smt Hema Malini ji along with Local Councilor Smt. Renu Hansraj, Asst. Commisioner MCGM K-West Ward Shri Vishvas Mote, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation and Shaan Lalwani of Vriksha and Nodal Officer of Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit Shri Yogendra Kachhawa and Municipal Staff of K-West Ward.
"Each of us must strive to preserve our environment. Our lives are intertwined with Mother Earth and it is our duty to save her. Adopting a Tree is one step in that direction," averred Hema Malini as she launched the campaign.

Hema Malini Inaugurates BMC’s Be A Tree Parent MEGA Vriksha Campaign
The recent cyclone Tauktae has battered the green cover of Mumbai, with 2363
trees being uprooted and innumerable others losing their branches. A survey
revealed that 70 per cent of the trees lost were non-native species. After
studying the local agro-climatic conditions, including soil quality, humid
weather, the BMC prepared a list of 41 native trees that can be planted in
Mumbai and are part of the trees in the Konkan belt. These are Wad, Pimpal,
Umber, Kanchan, Kadamba, Gunj, Palas, Nim, Mahogany, Moh, Bahawa, Sag, Arjun,
Ain, Kinjal, Sita Ashok, Undal, Nagkeshar, Champa, Shivan, Shirish, Karanj,
Bakul, Bell, Taman, Hirda, Behda, Coconut, Amla, Khair, Tetu, Mango,
Putranjiva, Wild Almond, Bibba, Parijatak, Rita, Sandalwood, Phanas and Chafa
among others.
On the eve of World Environment Day, the BMC’s K West Ward Asst Commissioner
Mr. Vishvas Mote along with Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation started the
‘Be A Tree Parent - Adopt A Fallen Tree Pit’ Campaign to involve societies and
residents to adopt one of the 348 fallen tree locations in K West Ward and
re-plant the same with an identified fast growing tree species.
Keeping in mind the above and to restore the green cover, Asst Commissioner
Vishvas Mote avered, “The aim of this campaign is to involve citizens and
societies to adopt and take care of a tree at the location of a fallen tree,
that will be planted in consultation with the Garden department. It also aims
to create awareness among citizens about different native species of trees,
their blooming seasons and growth patterns and to build a sense of ownership
among residents for green cover in the city.”
Added Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Founder, Make Earth Green Again MEGA Foundation,
“The trees we are planting in conjunction with the Garden department of BMC
include flowering plants Tamhan, Jamun, Badam and such other native species. We
have water levels that are high. Hence the roots do not go very deep in search
of water, which is why we think it best to grow species that do not grow above
30 feet. We are requesting the locals to become a tree parent and adopt the
trees. Any guidance or help they need at any time, we are there to handhold
them. Vishvas Mote ji has always been in the fore for causes that protect the
environment. We are very glad we can involve the community to protect our
greens. Our future depends on the green footprints we leave behind.”
The inauguration of this campaign was done by planting a Tamhan plant at a pit
where a 45 foot tree once stood, at the hands of Hon MP Smt Hema Malini ji
along with Local Councilor Smt. Renu Hansraj, Asst. Commisioner MCGM K-West
Ward Shri Vishvas Mote, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of Make Earth Green Again MEGA
Foundation and Shaan Lalwani of Vriksha and Nodal Officer of Adopt A Fallen
Tree Pit Shri Yogendra Kachhawa and Municipal Staff of K-West Ward. Actor Esha
Deol also lent support by gracing the occasion.
"Each of us must strive to preserve our environment. Our lives are intertwined
with Mother Earth and it is our duty to save her. Adopting a Tree is one step
in that direction," averred Hema Malini as she launched the campaign.

CINTAA DOES INDIA PROUD! 63 countries vote CINTAA representing India to The International Federation of Actors Executive Committee!
The pandemic has put a full stop to the Indian entertainment industry that had been at an unprecedented pace otherwise. CINTAA has been in the forefront, aiding and standing up for actor rights even through pandemic.
Now, CINTAA makes global news again with 63 countries voting the Indian actors’ body to The International Federation of Actors (FIA) Executive Committee!
For the uninitiated, The International Federation of Actors (FIA) is a global federation of performers’ trade unions, guilds and professional associations. Founded in 1952, it represents several hundreds of thousands of performers with some 90 member organisations in more than 60 countries around the world. FIA’s main purpose is to voice the professional interests of actors (in film, television, radio, theatre and live performance), broadcast professionals, dancers, singers, variety and circus artists and others.
CINTAA has always stood up for the well-being of its members. In 2016, Senior Joint Secretary & Chairperson -- Outreach Committee, CINTAA, Amit Behl, at the FIA meeting in Brazil, was involved in two very important motions. CINTAA's views and motions since then have always been respected and accepted by FIA and the same goes for this Congress as well.
Now, half a decade since its affiliation to FIA, for the first time in the history of the International Federation of Actors, CINTAA, representing India, has been elected to the executive committee of FIA. With over 150 members, representing 81 countries and with 63 countries exercising voting rights, this marks a landmark step for the Indian actor fraternity, especially since CINTAA has been fighting for the need for performer rights to be heard for the actors in the subcontinent.
CINTAA, with the belief that “The entertainment industry is a global industry with global issues. The response should also be global,” has always been lauded for its progressive thought at the congress.
“There is a huge diaspora of second generation, Asian, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi actors working in the United States of America, in East Africa, in South Africa, in Fiji, in the Caribbean islands, in the UK, in Australia, in New Zealand, in fact, so many other countries, and apart from Japan, which has primarily got more of animated content, since we have so much of content not only in Hindi, but other regional languages as well, with original as well as dubbed and subtitled content. And now it's being streamed across all the streaming platforms and etc. So the need for India to be part of the executive was expressed by the FIA presidium, and we were almost unanimously elected,” elaborates Amit Behl.
More power to CINTAA!

Respect actors like Frontline Workers, follow government guidelines and save lives: CINTAA
Kush Shah and 3 more test positive on Taarak Mehta sets… Anupama Actor Sudhanshu Pandey to Shoot from Home After Getting COVID-19… Aniruddh Dave shooting in Bhopal for webseries critical… Actor-anchor Shripradha dies due to COVID Complications… Marathi actor Abhilasha Patil dies due to COVID complications… The first three days were horrible, says Anupama actor Tassnim Sheikh, who tested positive for COVID-19… These are a few of the myriad current headlines that have come as a shock to the actor fraternity. Everyone from Akshay Kumar to Govinda to Alia Bhatt to Katrina Kaif to Vicky Kaushal to Bhumi Pednekar to Aamir Khan to R Madhavan to Manoj Bajpayee to Ranvir Shorey have all been affected by Covid.
The prime example of the kind of lapses that have occurred was of the shoot of Major Bickramjeet Singh who unfortunately expired. He and two other actors who travelled from the airport, lived in different hotels and travelled back to the airport separately had two things in common. They shared a vanity van in Lucknow. And brought home COVID to their spouses and families. Unfortunately one of them paid with his life. This is just one of the many casualties to COVID-19 we have faced in this difficult time.
Cine and Television Actors' Association (CINTAA), while appreciating the efforts of the Producers and production houses to continue work beyond the boundaries of Maharashtra, has taken a serious note of many of their artist members succumbing to death due to COVID while they were shooting outside Maharashtra and has immediately asked for all health and safety protocols to be strictly followed and a copy of SOP to be shared with them by their members, in order to examine any negligence that would have a severe impact on whole units.
CINTAA has also asked for the SOP designed as per new strain of virus which might show negative in the 1st RT-PCR and thus it means isolating cast and crew before and after shoot.
Also asking for protocols for one-two day character artistes, CINTAA has also expressed that there is a need to make sure that they are shooting in the vicinity of medical emergencies or have made arrangements on the set, and that actors have to undergo RT-PCR tests before going to the shoot on an outdoor location.
"It is wonderful that TV shoots are shooting in a bubble, with necessary precautions, but we are worried that a secure bio bubble of the IPL has been breached, it will not take long for this disaster to strike TV shoots. There is a traffic of actors travelling to and from shoots, using flights and airports and the danger of infection is tenfold," stated the CINTAA spokesperson.
CINTAA also expressed the need to be in the know if all producers have adequately covered the health and life of actors and technicians. “With medical costs sky rocketing, it is only prudent that expenses are completely covered with no burden to our members," averred CINTAA Spokesperson strongly urging that the 30 days payment is followed in the current situation till the pandemic is over to ease the financial position, CINTAA expressed displeasure on payment arrears since years to as low as Rs. 3000 even by the reputed houses.
Citing that actors who are not comfortable in shooting during the current phase of pandemic are being replaced overnight without any discussions further, CINTAA insisted that they be compensated.
"Most of the producers are saying that cine workers are frontline workers, we would like to point out that if any category that actually comes in the shape of frontline workers are the actors, who have to perform their scenes without masks. Who have to come in close contact with the Make-up artists, stylists and so on. So, they are most prone and susceptible to COVID infections. Hence, we are appealing to all the stake holders that we want to know on whom does the moral responsibility lie: If the actor contracts COVID who is going to take care of the entire hospital/medical expenses, the insurance, injury cover, death cover, etc. Is the broadcaster taking the onus, studio taking the onus, or the producer association or individual producer is taking the onus, that is what we wish to know," questioned CINTAA.
Urging the need to work in a healthy eco-system, CINTAA understands the problem of the stakeholders and the economics also, but would like the Association to be consulted because “this current wave of pandemic which is far more dangerous than the first wave and we are now most probably entering the 3rd wave of COVID 19 crisis. The pandemic has compelled us to distance ourselves socially but we stand united in our combat against the pandemic and we stay optimistic that our collective show of strength will bring in normalcy soon."
The Executive Committee of CINTAA also applauded Yashraj Films' endeavour to request the Honourable Maharashtra CM Shri Uddhav Thackeray for Covid 19 vaccination of 30,000 registered workers of FWICE Mumbai, and pointed out that Actors, whether or not members of CINTAA, should be included in the drive, along with the 30000 registered workers.
Reacting on the news of Salman Khan to donate Rs 1,500 to 25,000 film industry workers amid the second wave of COVID-19, CINTAA lauded the move, but expressed concern and helplessness on no CINTAA member actually being a beneficiary.
This CINTAA stance of coming in the open for its members marks a welcome change for the one-two day actors whose plight is worse than the film workers during this pandemic. If they are at home they will die of poverty and hunger and if they are at work without vaccination and adequate protection or instance, they will expose themselves to death due to pandemic.
Sadly, actors have nowhere been included in the various charities being offered, in spite of maximum casualties to this fraternity being at maximum risk at all levels including their unsure livelihood. This move by CINTAA is thus of utmost importance.
